NCS Begins Administration of Benefits for AEO Pilot Beneficiaries NCS Editor, September 24, 2024 The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced the administration of benefits for the first set of Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program beneficiaries, effective September 2, 2024. This initiative aims to enhance trade facilitation, reduce supply chain difficulties, and strengthen Nigeria’s position in global trade. The inaugural participants were selected based on their outstanding compliance within the supply chain, following a rigorous three-month validation process. The AEO program is being implemented under the guidance of the World Customs Organization (WCO) and with support from key partners such as the World Bank and various Customs administrations globally. Benefits for the selected Authorized Economic Operators include preferential treatment such as Automatic PAAR Registration, Direct Green Lane Routing, Dedicated Relationship Manager, and AEO Branding. Upon successful completion of the pilot phase and verification of ongoing compliance, participants will be awarded certificates recognizing their status as Authorized Economic Operators. Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, emphasized the need for robust support from all stakeholders, stating: “Collaboration is not just vital; it is essential for unlocking the full potential of the AEO programme, which promises to significantly streamline trade processes and elevate Nigeria’s standing in the global trade arena.” The NCS remains committed to promoting transparency, efficiency, and ease of doing business, and anticipates full-scale implementation of the AEO program to foster a seamless and secure trading environment for all Nigerians.
